Ms. Sayantani Jafa
Ms. Sayantani Jafa, IA&AS has taken over as Accountant General (A&E)-I, Maharashtra with effect from 1.10.2015 and as Principal Accountant General (A&E)-I, Maharashtra with effect from 01.07.2016.
Ms. Jafa is a gold medalist and Eshan Scholar in Modern History and International Relations from Presidency College, University of Calcutta, as well as a Felix Scholar and M.Sc in Development Studies from School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, U.K. She has also obtained certificate in Advanced Management Development Program from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
Belonging to the 1991 Batch of Indian Audit & Accounts Department she has worked in numerous managerial capacities in the IA&AD including as Accountant General(Audit)-III, Maharashtra, Mumbai and Principal Director of Railway Audit at Metro Railway, Kolkata and Railway Production Units, Varanasi and Chittaranjan. She has also worked as Director (Development) in a leading Public Sector Organization of the Power Sector the Damodar Valley Corporation. She also has wide International Experience both as Civil Affairs Officer, UN Mission in Kosovo and as External Auditor in International Organization of Migration (IOM) and World Maritime University.
She is a well-known author on Developmental and Socio-cultural issues. Her book Uncertain Identities: Craft Work, Women and Patriarchy In A Village of Eastern Uttar Pradesh has been widely acclaimed as an important academic contribution to Gender Studies in South Asia.
